Known as the Northern Territory’s tropical capital, also known as Australia’s smallest capital city, Darwin is truly a unique spot to visit while travelling about Australia.
Siting between the picturesque landscape of the region and the pristine blue waters of the coast, Darwin is right in the heart of the action.
The Nearby National Parks
Darwin opens itself up to some of the country’s best national parks around. Being the perfect base spot to set yourself in before trekking out to the lush bushland regions of both Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. Visitors can opt to simply enjoy a day trip here, swimming in the stunning waterfalls, and hiking about the rocky terrain. Otherwise, they can choose to camp out in the wilderness, immersing themselves completely in Australia’s beloved bushland.
The Unique Wildlife
Due to the impressive extend of bushland and natural terrain, Darwin is home to some of the country’s best animals. One of the most famous is the deadly Saltwater Crocodiles of Australia, both frightening and fascinating sight to see in person! You can either head to the city’s Crocosaurus Cove, a completely man-made croc environment. Where crocs from all ages and size enjoy the massive croc pools and lakes set up for them. Here visitors can learn more about these extraordinary animals and get up and close!
By far the best experience on offer is the Cage of Death, where guests are put into a clear glass tank and slowly lowered into the croc invested pool! Otherwise, visitors can see the wild crocs of the region, and head to Adelaide River for Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Where visitors cruise down the river and see the magnificent creatures roaming about. Even seeing the massive creatures jumping straight out of the water for the boat’s croc treats.
The Food
Due to the city’s long list of natural wonders and wildlife attractions, food may be a second thought for travellers. However, the city’s seafood should not be overlooked, as due to sitting on the ocean’s edge Darwin has fantastically fresh seafood on offer. Park yourself at one of the many coastal restaurants and enjoy a mouth-watering seafood platter. Washing it down with a glass of sparkling wine or a delicious cold beer!
